An offline beat maker for planes, trains and no-signal places

PadLoop does everything on your phone: to make music on a plane you don't have to prepare anything. If you want to split songs or use the plugin kits, download them first on Wi-Fi.

  • Pads, looper and Keyboard work offline, free version included
  • Song splitting works in airplane mode once the plugin is downloaded
  • Internet is only for plugins, buying and restoring

PadLoop is an offline beat maker, and to play you don't have to prepare anything: pads, looper, Keyboard and sequencer already live on your phone. You only need a connection to download plugins and to reach the store. With the Stem split plugin already downloaded you can even split a song into vocals, drums, bass and the rest at 35,000 feet.

Airplane mode, same as home: pick a track, press REC, play, and the loop repeats while you stack layers

Before you go: two minutes on Wi-Fi

To play, you don't have to prepare anything: pads, looper and Ready beats are already in the app. Just set this up, if you need it:

  1. On Wi-Fi, open MORE → Plugins and download what you need: Stem split (79 MB) for splitting songs, plus sound kits and instruments of 1 to 9 MB each.
  2. On iPhone, if you want the 7-day trial, start it before you go: in MORE tap the top row, then Start the free trial.
  3. Copy the songs you want to split or sample onto your phone, as MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC or OGG.
  4. Run both calibrations in MORE once, Calibrate by tapping and Calibrate latency (click test), on the phone speaker.

The calibrations take about two minutes in all and stay saved: from then on, recorded hits and vocals land where you played them, on the road too.

Pack your studio in your bag: download the plugins on your home Wi-Fi and during the 7-day trial you use them all, network off.On iPhone: in MORE tap the top row, then Start the free trial. It costs nothing and does not renew.

What works with no internet?

There's no account and nothing goes to the cloud: sounds, recordings and projects stay on your phone. That's why, with no network, everything you need to make music still works.

In the free version, forever:

  • the pads of banks A and B (two pages of 16 sounds), with soft and loud by touch, and the pencil (the button that edits pads)
  • the Keyboard in key, ⟳ (it repeats the hit in time), the arpeggiator and the bolt (hold-down effects)
  • the looper with 2 tracks (the layers of your song), microphone included, with mute and undo
  • the SEQ step sequencer on tracks 1 and 2, MIDI controllers and the pedal
  • previewing the 24 Ready beats

In the full version, and during the 7-day trial:

  • all 8 banks and up to 16 tracks
  • the Sound library (558 sounds), the Ready banks and loading the Ready beats
  • the sampler: microphone, audio files, sound from a video, resample the app
  • Split a song, the kits and the 6 complete Ready beats, if the plugins they use are already on the phone
  • export to MP3, WAV or separate tracks, and Record performance
  • your own saved banks and project backups

The guide is inside the app too: the ? on the main screens explains every button without opening a web page.

What needs a connection?

The list is short, and worth knowing before you leave:

  • Downloading plugins. They come from Google Play or the App Store.
  • Buying or restoring the full version, because it goes through the store.
  • On iPhone, starting the trial: it's a zero-price App Store purchase.
  • Sending files to other people: the export is created on your phone, but sharing it in a chat or by email needs a connection.

Once bought, the full version stays unlocked offline: the purchase is stored on your phone and a network error doesn't remove it.

How to fill a trip with loops

The fastest way is the looper. Pick a track (the numbers at the top), press REC and play the pads: after a one-bar count-in the loop records and keeps repeating. Press REC on another track and stack a new layer without stopping the music. Don't like a layer? The ↶ arrow takes it off.

Don't want to play in time on a bumpy train? Open the SEQ tab and switch squares on with your finger. To start from a full groove, Ready beats load with one tap offline too, in the full version or during the trial (the 6 complete ones once their plugins are downloaded). For a refresher on the basics, see how to make beats on your phone.

Can you split a song in airplane mode?

Yes, and it's the part that surprises people. With the Stem split plugin already downloaded, splitting happens on the phone. In the SAMPLE tab tap Split a song, pick a file (up to 6 minutes) and stay in PadLoop until it finishes. You get four parts, Vocals, Drums, Bass and Other, to play on their own or put on the pads.

A song split on the phone with no internet: vocals, drums, bass and the rest, then onto the pads
Transcript
  1. 0:00 Pick any song from your phone
  2. 0:02 It is split right on the phone, offline
  3. 0:05 4 parts: vocals, drums, bass and the rest
  4. 0:10 Just the vocals
  5. 0:16 Or just the beat
  6. 0:21 Put the parts on your pads
  7. 0:24 …and remix the song live

Splitting takes a few minutes, but the parts stay saved and open instantly the second time. Phone requirements and copyright are on the page about how to split a song into vocals and drums.

Sample the world around you, offline too

The sampler, part of the full version, doesn't need a connection: in the SAMPLE tab you record from the microphone, import a file or grab the sound from a video. A station announcement, the rhythm of the train, a clinking cup: trim the bit you like and put it on a pad. Cabin hum in the way? Clean up noise reduces it.

You can also sing straight into the loop: a track's 🎤 button records your voice in time with the beat, and two microphone tracks are included in the free version too.

Back home: export and share

Work done offline is already saved: PadLoop saves the project automatically. When you want to play it to someone, tap Export in the LOOP tab (a full-version feature): you get an MP3 or WAV, or one WAV per track. The file is created even with no connection; to send it in a chat, just wait for the first Wi-Fi.

Free, trial and purchase: what changes offline?

Nothing: offline works exactly like online. During the 7-day trial you have everything, plugins included; after that, the free version gives you 2 banks, 2 looper tracks (mic included) and one project. The sampler, plugins, 16 tracks, export, saved banks and backups unlock with a single purchase, €9.99 in Europe. The full picture is on the music app with no subscription page.

Good to know

  • To play the pads in time, bring wired headphones, even with a USB-C adapter: Bluetooth usually adds 100 to 300 ms of delay, and no app can remove it.
  • Split songs with your battery charged. The job uses some battery, and if you leave PadLoop the phone may stop it: stay in the app until it finishes.

Turn your next trip into a session: pads, looper and Keyboard run with no signal and no account, and the free version never expires. On iPhone: in MORE tap the top row, then Start the free trial. It costs nothing and does not renew.

Questions about using PadLoop offline

Is there a beat maker app that works offline?

Yes. In PadLoop the pads, the looper, the Keyboard and the step sequencer work offline, free version included, because the sounds and the processing live on your phone. You only need internet to download plugins, to buy and to restore.

Is there an offline beat maker for Android?

Yes, PadLoop runs on Android 7 or later, and on iPhone and iPad with iOS 15 or later. On both, making music needs no connection.

Can I split a song into vocals and drums without internet?

Yes, once you've downloaded the Stem split plugin (79 MB). The model that separates vocals, drums, bass and the rest runs on the phone, so splitting works in airplane mode.

What should I download before a flight?

The plugins you plan to use, from MORE → Plugins: Stem split for splitting songs, the sound kits and the instruments. Also copy the tracks you want to split or sample onto your phone.

If I bought PadLoop, does it stay unlocked offline?

Yes. Your purchase is stored on your phone and a network error doesn't remove it. You only need a connection to buy, or to restore the purchase on a new phone.

Can I use Bluetooth headphones on a plane?

For listening, yes; for playing in time, a cable is better, even through a USB-C adapter, because Bluetooth usually adds 100 to 300 ms of delay.
