PadLoop

Split a song

Remove vocals from a song, right on your phone

Pick a track from your phone and PadLoop splits it into four stems: vocals, drums, bass and everything else. Nothing gets uploaded anywhere, and it works even in airplane mode.

  • 4 separate stems, or just vocals + backing track
  • All on the phone: no upload, no internet
  • Drop the stems on pads and remix them live

PadLoop is a vocal remover that runs on your phone. Pick a song and a few minutes later you have four separate stems: vocals, drums, bass and other. Mute the vocals and sing over the real backing track, in sections of up to 30 seconds. No upload: it even works offline. Split a song is part of the full version, and you can try it free for 7 days with any audio file saved on your phone.

Listen: before and after the splitOne of our own songs, split by PadLoop on a phone. Tap the parts while it plays.

From song to instrumental

  1. In the SAMPLE tab, tap Split a song and pick a file from your phone (MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC or OGG, up to 6 minutes).
  2. The first time, download the Stem split plugin PadLoop offers. After that you don't need a connection.
  3. Stay in PadLoop while it works: you see the stages, the percentage and the time elapsed. Then you get Vocals, Drums, Bass and Other.
  4. Mute the stems you don't want with their buttons. Only need the vocals or the backing track? Switch to the Vocals + beat view.
  5. Want to remix? Tap Pad next to a stem and choose the bank (a page of 16 pads).

What you get after the split

  • Vocals: the lead vocal, backing vocals included, so you can extract the acapella
  • Drums: kicks, snares, cymbals and percussion
  • Bass: the bass line
  • Other: guitars, keys, synths, strings and everything else

The Vocals + beat view groups drums, bass and other into a single "Beat" row. The split is the same; only the way you listen changes.

Split, listen, put it on pads

Pick the song, listen to the full mix, then only the vocals, then only the backing track. At the end two stems land on pads and get remixed live.

Loop a passage a hundred times

With the window at the top you pick the section you care about, up to 30 seconds, and hear it with Play section. To have it repeat endlessly, put it on a pad with Pad, then use the pencil (it edits the pads) to set that pad to Loop: one tap starts it, another stops it.

Practicing an instrument? Mute only the part you play. Remove the bass from a song and play bass over the real band; remove the drums from a song and be the drummer on the pads.

A remix made with your fingers

On a pad the stem becomes a sound like any other. Trigger it whenever you want, trim it, change the pitch, add echo or filter. Then record it into the looper with your own drums: the original vocal comes in when you decide, over a bass line of yours. That's how you remix a song on your phone.

What people actually use it for

  • Karaoke at home: sing over the real backing track, not a cover version. For that, see how to make a karaoke backing track from any song.
  • Learning a song: isolate the bass or vocals and loop the same bit until it sticks.
  • Practicing with the band: mute your instrument and play its part yourself.
  • Sampling: a vocal phrase or a riff becomes pads for your beats.

Studying and practicing are fine; to publish stems from someone else's song you need the rights to the track.

Why on your phone instead of online

Many online vocal removers make you upload the song to a server, wait, then download the result, often with daily limits or a subscription. With PadLoop:

  • the song never leaves your phone
  • it works without internet, on a plane or in a rehearsal room
  • no limit on songs per day
  • the stems are already inside an instrument, ready to play

The trade-off is time: a phone isn't a server, so a whole song takes a few minutes.

Good to know

  • You work in sections of up to 30 seconds. You listen to, mute and put on pads one window at a time: PadLoop doesn't play or export the whole instrumental from start to finish.
  • You need an actual file. Songs in Spotify, YouTube and other streaming apps can't be split: you need an MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC or OGG saved on your phone.
  • Memory and space. You need at least 3 GB of RAM on Android or 4 GB on iPhone, and at least 300 MB free: the plugin downloads once and weighs 79 MB.
  • Start from a good-quality file. A low-bitrate MP3 or a reverb-drenched live recording separates less cleanly.
  • Fewer instruments, better result. Voice and guitar separate well; a wall of sound leaves some bleed.
  • Stay in PadLoop until it finishes. If you leave, the phone may pause the work to save battery. You can cancel at any time.

Put the vocals or the drums of your song on the pads and remix it: Split a song is included in the 7-day trial, then it's part of the one-time purchase. On iPhone: in MORE tap the top row, then Start the free trial. It costs nothing and does not renew.

Questions about removing vocals

Can I remove vocals from a song online for free?

With PadLoop you do it on your phone instead of a website: the song isn't uploaded anywhere and there's no limit on songs. Split a song is included in the 7-day trial; after that it's part of the full version, a one-time purchase that covers the other plugins too, so your favorite songs stay one tap away from a version without vocals or drums, 30 seconds at a time. No subscription.

Does it use AI?

Yes: the Stem split plugin contains an AI model that recognizes vocals, drums, bass and the rest. It all runs on your phone, so the song never leaves your device.

Do I need internet to remove vocals?

Only once, to download the Stem split plugin. After that the whole split happens on your phone, offline.

How long does it take?

It depends on the phone and the length of the track. On a recent phone a 5-minute song usually takes a couple of minutes. The stems stay saved, so next time they open right away.

Which audio files can I use?

The most common formats: MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC and OGG, taken from your phone's storage, up to 6 minutes long.

Which phones can split songs?

Android phones with at least 3 GB of RAM and iPhones with at least 4 GB. On phones with less memory the plugin stays off, so the app doesn't crash halfway through.

Can I use any song?

Technically yes, but publishing stems from someone else's song requires the rights. For studying, karaoke at home or practicing it's fine; to release a remix, use your own tracks, free ones or licensed ones.
